Hello, I'm Lotte Jansen, I'm 17 and from Leiden, Netherlands. Growing up in this historic city with its charming canals and one of Europe's oldest universities, I've nurtured a profound love for culture, history, and art. I'm eager to explore new cultural horizons, with a special interest in the dynamic heritage and lifestyle of Southern Europe. In school, I've delved into the arts, particularly painting and graphic design. My art often captures the essence of community and the interplay between modernity and tradition, inspired by Leiden's rich past and vibrant present. Winning a few local art competitions has only fueled my desire to learn more, and I'm excited about the prospect of integrating new cultural elements into my work from abroad. Leiden has instilled in me the importance of community and cultural exchange. I volunteer at our local art museum, assisting in educational programs for youth. I'm looking forward to bringing my Dutch perspective to new environments, sharing and learning in equal measure. I'm particularly interested in Italy or Spain but anywhere else is just as good as what matters is the people and not the place.

  • Pedro Almeida

Hi, I study in Escola Secundaria D.JoaoII in Setúbal. Known for its stunning coastal views and the cultural richness of its port, Setúbal has been both my home and my inspiration. I'm passionate about filmmaking and have been exploring this art since I was young, using my town's landscapes as my canvas. I've attended workshops and local film clubs, which sparked my interest in narrative storytelling and the magic of cinema. I'm eager to share my love for Portuguese culture and learn about others through this exchange program. At school, I'm involved in various projects that blend art with technology, often taking the lead in creating short films for school events or local festivals. This experience has not only taught me about directing and editing but also about collaboration and leadership. I'm currently looking forward to expanding my skills and perspectives through international education, hoping to bring a fresh Portuguese viewpoint to the films I'll create. My goal is to connect with peers from around the world, learning from their stories and cultural backgrounds. Outside of my academic pursuits, I love engaging with my community, whether it's through volunteering at local cultural events or participating in environmental conservation projects along our beautiful coastline. I believe in the power of cultural exchange to foster understanding and create shared experiences. I'm incredibly excited about this opportunity to step outside my comfort zone, meet new friends, and weave together stories that reflect our diverse, yet interconnected world.

I volunteer at local youth centers, helping with educational programs and community events. I'm excited to take this enthusiasm for community engagement abroad, to learn from and contribute to new communities. While my heart is set on experiencing the unique culture and nature of Finland as i feel it might be fun to see a geography out of the ordinary there, I'm open to wherever is possible.

  • Setubal

Setúbal, a charming city located on Portugal's stunning Sado River estuary, offers a unique blend of natural beauty and rich history for visitors staying at a friend's house for a week. The city is enveloped by the natural splendor of the Arrábida Natural Park, where you can enjoy hiking or take a dip in one of the region's pristine beaches like Galapinhos or Portinho da Arrabida. For a cultural experience, visit the historical center with its narrow streets, vibrant markets, and landmarks such as the Monastery of Jesus and the São Julião Church. Setúbal is also renowned for its seafood, particularly the famous grilled cuttlefish known as "choco frito." A trip to the bustling Mercado do Livramento, one of the largest and most traditional fish markets in Portugal, would be a must-do to experience local flavors and daily life. Transportation in Setúbal is quite manageable for visitors without a car. The city center is walkable, and you can explore most attractions on foot. For trips further afield, the local bus system, run by Transportes Sul do Tejo (TST), is efficient and affordable, connecting you to nearby towns and beaches. If you're interested in a day trip, consider taking a ferry to the Troia Peninsula for its beautiful beaches or a boat tour in the Sado Estuary to see the resident bottlenose dolphins. Staying at a friend's house also gives you the advantage of experiencing Setúbal's lifestyle first-hand, perhaps enjoying a local café, going for a morning walk in Jardim do Bonfim, or joining your host for an evening stroll along Avenida Luisa Todi. This will not only enrich your understanding of local culture but also make your visit more memorable and personalized.
